Hidden Layers: Diversity in Design is a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices, experiences, and perspectives of designers whose stories have too often been overlooked, sidelined, or erased—yet whose influence continues to shape the creative world in powerful and lasting ways. This project creates space for honest, unfiltered conversations that reveal the realities behind the work: the journeys, the challenges, the breakthroughs, and the resilience that drive Black, Brown, and marginalised creatives forward.Through in-depth interviews, shared experiences, and open dialogue, we explore how these creatives are building careers on their own terms, carving out new pathways, and redefining what success in design can look like. We talk about access, opportunity, identity, visibility, and the systems that have historically excluded many from the industry. But we also celebrate joy, innovation, collaboration, and the undeniable impact of diverse perspectives on shaping culture and visual language. Hidden Layers is not just about telling stories, it is about documenting lived experiences, creating connection, and building a growing archive of voices that inspire, educate, and empower others. It is about making space for nuance, honesty, and complexity. It is about challenging assumptions and expanding the narrative of who gets to be seen as a designer. This platform exists for emerging creatives searching for representation, for established professionals pushing for change, and for anyone who believes the design industry should reflect the world it serves. By sharing these stories openly, we aim to foster community, encourage dialogue, and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable creative future.
Representation isn’t optional. It isn’t a trend. It’s the foundation of a stronger, richer, more honest design industry.
